Applying to the PHSRN

The PHSRN funds research workshops and research projects addressing one or more of the following themes:

  • translating population health sciences research into policy and practice
  • changing behaviour
  • developing and validating new and robust methods for measuring exposures
  • overcoming barriers to population health sciences research
  • synthesizing evidence

The focus of the network's activity from 2010 inwards will be on methodological knowledge transfer. In assessing applications, the Board looks for evidence of:

1. Added value

Could the research be undertaken without Network funding?

Are methodological developments transferable beyond the initial project?

2. Multidisciplinarity

Does the proposal include multidisciplinary skills and expertise?

3. Inclusivity

Does the proposal include at least 2 core members of the Network?

Are other MRC funded research groups, intra- and extramural, working in the field included?

4. Relevance

How does the proposal relate to the Network's research themes (see above)?

How does the proposal address the MRC's strategic priorities?

Who can apply?

To apply for PHSRN funding you must be employed in of one of the twelve member units or centres; however researchers employed in other MRC units and centres may be involved as co-applicants, and collaborations with non MRC-funded researchers are welcomed.
